THE DESERT SONG

The Red Shadow... Cyrano, The Scarlet Pimpernel and
Superman Rolled Into One... With Music!

Follow the adventures of mild-mannered Pierre, a loser whose alter ego reveals the Red Shadow. Secretly, he heroically champions anti-colonial rebel forces in the Moroccan desert. In a romantic act of conquering derring-do he sweeps the willful Margot by force off into the Sahara. Her rival, the fiery Azuri, blazing with jealousy, holds the key to solving the riddle, “Who is that masked man?” The lush musical gave us the many favorite songs we recognize today, including: The Riff Song, The French Military Marching Song, Romance, Then You Will Know, One Good Boy Gone Wrong and One Alone. Wildly successful in the 1920’s, the show drew upon the then-current rage, Arabian exotica.
